One or more service projects are chosen each year.  For the past two years we have been painting Memory Boxes and giving them to local hospitals for families of infants that pass away in the hospital so that the families did not leave the hospital empty handed without any representation of that child's life We also give to Sherman High School towards a scholarship in Fine Arts.

In 2007 we painted wall murals in the children’s department at the First Baptist Church in Tom Bean.  The mission of the First Baptist Tom Bean’s children ministry is to partner with parents in their responsibility for the spiritual training of their children.  With this in mind, the children’s council and the chapter wanted the murals to be something that both parents and children would enjoy as well as all ages in the church and community.  The murals represent a portion of God’s creation.  When you enter the children’s area, you will see on one side of the hall a forest with forest animals.  As you turn the corner, the forest empties into a lake complete with fish jumping out of the water.  The other side of the hall is taken from a photograph taken in Estes Park, Colorado.  This is a mountain waterfall and stream.  Around the corner coming out of the mountains is a covered bridge and wildflower meadow.  The focal wall is where the department gets its’ name, “Adventure Cove.”  The cove is complete with a lighthouse, sandy beach with kids playing, pier, and a family sailing.  The lighthouse was chosen as the focal wall as a lighthouse stands strong and stable in the midst of storms.    Lighthouses demonstrate that the greater the darkness, the brighter the light shines.  A lighthouse exists not for itself, but to serve and to save others.  Jesus Christ is the solid rock upon which we’re building our lives, and by trusting in him we’re finding a firm foundation on which to stand.

Each classroom has one wall painted.  These walls represent areas in which children and parents can go to spend quality time with each other or by themselves to enjoy what God has given.

The chapter began planning the murals in the fall of 2006 and started painting in January,  2007.  The murals were finished in time for open house and Vacation Bible School in early August.  Each Sunday and Wednesday evening, the children and adults look to see what has been added and to see the excitement when they spot that something new.  The murals add to the adventure found each week in the children's department.
